Findasitter is a website that lets parents find a local babysitter. It is not an agency but provides a matching service – putting you in touch with local babysitters at a cost far less than most agencies charge or advertising yourself. We register all kinds of babysitters for all kinds of families but specialise in babysitters who are confident and experienced in working with children with disabilities or special needs.
I set up the site in 2006 after realising that there was no UK website that helped me to find a babysitter for my family which included a child with a chronic condition. With no family nearby I was at my wits end until I struck upon this idea. Starting in August 2006, findasitter has grown to almost 6000 babysitter members and around 3000 families.
Findasitter is a social enterprise. Although I run it as a business, and maybe even make a profit one day, my main aim is not profit but to help parents find a babysitter they can trust for their children. It really means a lot to me when I am told about the great babysitter a family has found, especially if the child is disabled or with special needs. I manage findasitter with the aim providing a service which is why, at the moment, I have no advertising on the site. FROM 1 FEBRUARY 2010 I AM TRIALING FINDASITTER AS A FREE SERVICE, TRYING TO OVER THE COSTS OF RUNNING IT THROUGH ADVERTISING .
